Professor Craig Primmer has received an ERC advanced grant for a repeat. The five-year grant amounts to EUR 2.5 million.

Professor Craig Primmer has previously studied the molecular-level processes and environmental effects of salmon sexual maturation.

“In my new project, I will expand my research program and study the genetic background of several life cycle traits, and their molecular-level processes and environmental effects in salmon, rainbow trout, and cod,” Primmer says.

Professor Primmer is the only researcher in Finland to receive the ERC Advanced Grant in the field of life sciences research this round.

The ERC Advanced Grant is a form of funding from the European Research Council (ERC) that targets top researchers in their field for pioneering, ambitious projects with a very high potential impact.

Advanced Grant funding is available to an active researcher who has achieved significant research results in the last ten years. The researcher is required to have exceptionally strong merits in research management and science.

“It is great and rare that the faculty's research receives such significant follow-up funding immediately after the previous one - this speaks to our high-quality, socially beneficial and visible research,” says Dean Jaakko Kangasjärvi from the Faculty of Biological and Enviornmental Sciences.
