Detection of a New Virus in Denmark

In connection with a large calf project "Robust calves", researchers at the University of Copenhagen have identified a new virus that causes pneumonia in calves. The new virus - Influenza D - has not previously been detected in Danish calves.

The researchers have made a detailed genetic characterization, which shows that at least two different variants of this virus have been introduced to Denmark and these viruses have great similarities with influenza D viruses in France and Italy.
